Missy Elliott has had a long and fruitful career as a musician and rapper. However, though she has spent a considerable amount of time in the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know about her. Number Fifteen: She Was Best Friends With Aaliyah. In fact, Aaliyah only had good things to say about Missy. She said, “When I first met Missy I felt a connection. It was like she already knew my style.” There are several photographs of the two together looking fly.
Number Fourteen: She’s Holding on to a Lot of Unreleased Material. According to Missy, she has six albums of unreleased material that she calls The Missing Files of Missy Elliott. It is unknown when, if, or how this material will be released.
Number Thirteen: She Has Graves’ Disease. Though Missy took a bit of a hiatus, she is back now. Her hiatus was in part caused by Graves’ disease, which is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland. She was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 2008.
Number Twelve: She May Be Connected to Lil’ Kim’s Pastie. Lil’ Kim is well-known for the outfit she wore to the 1999 MTV VMAs, which involved a nipple pastie. She has been a style icon since the 1990s.
Number Eleven: Pharrell Is Credited With Her Return to the Industry. Missy returned in 2014, and we have Pharrell to thank for that. Pharrell called her to ask her to come into the studio, and because his song, “Happy,” was so huge then, she couldn’t say no.
Number Ten: She Had a Panic Attack Before Her Super Bowl Performance. Though Missy is total fire on stage, she has experienced stage fright before, and she even had a panic attack before her Super Bowl performance. She even had to get IVs in her arm.
Number Nine: The Puppets for “WTF” Took Four Months to Make. But it was definitely worth it, because the video is incredible to watch.
