Michael Robert Henrion Posner famously known as just Mike Posner has one of the most impressive résumés in the music industry. He is a song writer, singer and record producer who has contributed to the success of several artist’s in the industry. These artist’s include, Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Labrinth, and Justin Bieber among others. His most recent success is with Maroon 5’s hit song “Sugar,” which he penned. And with this we are not even discussing his résumé in details. He a successful career as an artist as well. After a long break and a few appearances occasionally, this musical genius is back to entertain. His latest single is titled “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” and it is a different kind of sound. Mike Posner lets the Hip-Hop and R&B sound sit this one out and he goes for something more composed and acoustical.

“I Took A Pill In Ibiza” sounds very personal and it is indeed a personal song from Mike Posner. He is self-examining himself on this song and the sincerity of this self-examination can be felt from what he says. He tells us about the things he has been going through and notable you’ll hear him saying all he knows are sad songs. He talks about how he gets along with old timers because his name is a reminder of a pop song people forgot. You might be among those people that forgot about his hit pop song “Cooler Than Me,” it has been a while since that song. This sounds good in lyrics but in reality, Mike Posner is not a one hit wander like he insinuates. Remember “Please Don’t Go” and “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” featuring Lil Wayne which were massive hits? His behind the scenes career as a song writer also runs to his defense here. He has written some of the big artists’ biggest songs and that also serves as a reminder of who he is.

Mike Posner took a new direction with this song and the new direction is one he perfectly executed. He managed to be comfortable and possess a style he is not habituated to. “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” is a song you will certainly love for the honesty in the lyrics: “I took a pill in Ibiza To show Avicii I was cool / And when I finally got sober, felt 10 years older./ But f**k it, it was something to do I’m living out in LA / I drive a sports car just to prove I’m a real big baller cause I made a million dollars / and spent it on girls and shows.”

This song sounds written from the heart, where Mike Posner is giving us an inside story of what goes on in the lives of the stars. He might be entirely referring to himself but the story is not an extra-ordinary one. It is story that tells the tale of many stars. What Mike Posner spent his million dollars on is usually what the million dollars are spent on.

“I Took A Pill In Ibiza” brings creative honest writing, a great well regulated soft voice and a brilliant artist together to produce a glorious song. Mike Posner is one artist that has uniquely attracted the audience because of the distinct sound and delivery. I believe his album, 31 Minutes To Takeoff, is still one of the most uniquely put together albums of all time. “I Took A Pill in Ibiza” is the first in line of great music to come from Mike Posner. You should be excited, very excited, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” can only be a prophesy of greatness.
