Meghan Trainor‘s Title is expected to be the Number 1 album on the Billboard 200 charts. The album is projected to sell 220,000 copies in the week ending on January 18th. The actual chart positions won’t be revealed until January 21st. Trainor’s Title was originally released as an EP on September 2014. The album was reissued on January 9th; the reissue included additional songs.
When she was 17 years old, Meghan Trainor signed a songwriting publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music. During that time, she wrote the song “All About That Bass.” The record was passed on by numerous female artists. Some sources reported Beyoncé was one of the artists who passed on the record. Trainor spoke to The Guardian about the situation, “I’ll bet some of them didn’t even know the song was being pitched to them. Some artists get thousands of songs pitched and they never know, so Beyoncé herself probably never heard it.” She continued, “Most of these other artists’ A&R teams said they couldn’t do anything with the song because they didn’t have [the right] artist.” Since Trainor couldn’t get “All About That Bass” placed by other artists, she decided to keep the song for herself.
“All About That Bass” became one of the biggest selling singles of all time; the song has sold over six million copies worldwide. It also went Number 1 in fifty-eight countries, including an eight-week run at Number 1 in the US. “All About That Bass” is the longest-reigning number one song on Billboard’s Hot 100 by an Epic Records artist. It surpassed Michael Jackson‘s seven-week stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts with his songs “Billie Jean” and “Black or White.” Trainor’s successful hit is nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards. The pop singer says Bruno Mars is her favorite artist. “All About That Bass” was inspired by Mars’ “Just the Way You Are.” Trainor says both songs are about “self-acceptance” and “loving what you got and rocking it.” Her second single, “Lips Are Movin’” was also a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
