Among the many bets placed over the Saturday night Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, the wager that Suge Knight was keeping watch on most, was whether or not Floyd Mayweather will be paying his bail. In a story that broke on April 30th when Knight’s attorney, Matthew Fletcher, told the NY Daily News that should Mayweather be victorious in Saturday’s fight, he would be bailing out Knight saying, “My understanding is that Suge is going to be bailed out this coming week.” Fletcher also commented that, “They’re good friends,” and claims that Mayweather is “one of his wealthiest friends.” While Knight and his family may have been sure that he was getting his bail paid this weekend, it all came as a surprise to Mayweather. While Knight and Mayweather were once good friends, the two haven’t been close in many years; not only have the two drifted apart, they haven’t spoken in several years. Knight, who told his lawyer “Man, I was really going to pull for him to win, but now I’m going to have to pray for him to win,” may no longer be nearly as excited for the news of Mayweather’s win, which was a unanimous decision making him undefeated 48-0. Knight, who plead not guilty at Thursday’s trial for murder and attempted murder, has a jury trial set for July 7th. On January 29th Knight was involved in a hit-and-run in the parking lot of Tam’s Burgers in Compton that injured actor Cle Bone Sloan and killed Terry Carter. Since his arrest, Knight has been hospitalized three times and is now facing life in prison.
The Mayweather/Pacquiao fight has brought in more revenue than any other match in the history of boxing. Not only are celebrities such as P. Diddy and Mark Wahlberg each betting $250,000 on the fight, and 50 Cent betting over a million dollars; but between Pay-Per-View sales, ticket sales, international broadcast sales, closed-circuit broadcasts at bars, sponsorships, and merchandise sales, the two fighters stand to earn anywhere between $100 million to $150 million. Aside from being the richest fight ever, it was also the most star studded with celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Justin Bieber, Jay Z, Beyoncé, Denzel Washington, Jake Gylenhall, Robert DeNiro, Michael Jordon, and even Paris Hilton attending the event.
