Mastodon Guitarist to Play Ryan Dunn in New Film

Mastodon guitarist, Brent Hinds, will play the late Ryan Dunn in a film by Bam Margera. Dunn became known for his wild antics as a member of the Jackass and Viva La Bam crew. Bam Margera, Dunn’s co-star and best friend, announced Hinds role in his film I Needed Time to Stay Useless. A release date for the film has not been announced.

Dunn and Margera performed extreme stunts and pranks together and recorded them on camera. Those recordings led to the rise of MTV’s television show Jackass. The show also starred Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O. Dunn made a lot of appearances in movies including Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, Jackass 2.5, and Street Dreams. He also starred in Bam Margera’s films Haggard: The Movie and Minghags: The Movie. In 2005, Dunn hosted the show Homewrecker on MTV. The show was similar to reality TV renovation shows, except rooms were wrecked, not renovated. In 2011, Ryan Dunn hosted the show Proving Ground on the G4 network.

Unfortunately, Dunn was killed in an automobile accident less than a week after the show aired. Drinking and driving was the cause of the accident. Dunn’s blood-alcohol level was .196, and he was driving over 140 miles an hour. After Dunn’s untimely death, Bam Margera spoke to E! News about his loss, “He was my best f***ing friend in the world. It’s been five days now and I can’t stop crying man. I just don’t think it should’ve been him.” Bam also said that years before Dunn’s fatal accident, the two were involved in a non-fatal accident in the same area. “He flipped me in a car eight times at the same exact spot in 1996. Thank God I had my seat belt on, because Chris Raab put one on me, but my brother didn’t have one on. He flew forty feet. Thank God he’s alive. But like, Dunn was always a maniac at driving.” Upon the news of Dunn’s death, many celebrities expressed their grief on social media, including Tom Green, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Tony Hawk, Cary Hart, and his Jackass cast members. The 2013 film, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, is dedicated to Ryan Dunn.
