Las Vegas has gotten three residencies since the beginning of this year, first Celine Dion and Britney Spears, then Mariah Carey, and earlier this week Jennifer Lopez. Carey, who opened her show at Caesars Palace on Wednesday, May 6th, has already had to cancel one of her performances, doctor’s orders. The five time Grammy award-winning singer has a case of bronchitis and on doctor’s orders is on mandatory vocal rest. After canceling the show, Carey took to her Instagram and posted this message to her fans, “Hey guys, I’ve been fighting bronchitis for the past few day… almost better but on mandatory vocal rest per doctor’s orders.” She continued, “I’m so sorry to cancel tonight’s show but I promise to make it up to you!!! Love you always, MC.” Her next show is scheduled for May 16th.
Mariah #1 to Infinity is being directed by Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich and while only the first eighteen shows have been announced, sources close to the show expect it to run through the end of the year. Carey’s sold out opening night was such a success that her manager, Stella Bulochnikov, admitted that “We were told, in no uncertain terms, that it was one of the best — if not the best — show openings Las Vegas has ever had.” Perhaps part of that success is due to Carey’s set list, each performance is made up of her eighteen number one hits, in order of their release. When asked why she chose to do only one her number one hits, Carey replied “I think any Vegas residency should be the No. 1’s, because most of the people coming to see you, most of them don’t know the album cuts that the fans know. If I were to do a show of my favorite songs for the fans, which I will do one day, it would be a more intimate setting.”
Aside from Carey’s new Vegas residency, she has recently released the music video for her latest single, “Infinity.” She also has been spending time visiting her good friend Tyson Beckford who runs the Las Vegas Chippendales Show. She even took the stage to get a lap dance from Beckford, later posting to Instagram about the experience. “I’ve no idea how I got here!! @chippendales,” along with a photo of him kissing her on the cheek.
