Pop superstar Mariah Carey has confirmed her first Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace. There have been rumors circulating for weeks that Carey would sign a deal with Las Vegas. The pop singer finally confirmed the residency on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, “I’m going to do my first ever residency in Vegas at Caesars. This is a special event for me.” The details of Mariah Carey’s Las Vegas deal have not been made public.
Signing a Las Vegas residency has become a huge trend in the music industry. Artists including Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Shania Twain, Kiss, and David Guetta have all signed residency deals in Las Vegas. Celine Dion signed a Las Vegas residency with The Colosseum Caesar’s Palace in 2003. Eight years later, she resigned with Caesars’s Palace. Dion performs seventy shows a year for $476,000 per show. Pollster reported Dion’s shows have grossed $116.5 million dollars. Currently, Celine Dion is taking hiatus from performing while she cares for her sick husband. Dion is expected to return to Las Vegas in March. In 2013, Britney Spears took a residency at Planet Hollywood Casino’s Axis auditorium. Spears’ initial deal was for fifty shows a year, and an earning of $310,000 per show. According to reports, the pop star signed a new deal last year. Spears will earn $475,000 per show, and she will perform 140 shows. The deal is worth a reported 66.5 million.
Most recently, Craig Wayne Boyd, winner of NBC’s The Voice, will open for Rascal Flatts at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The residency begins February 25th and concludes on March 14th. This marks the first Las Vegas “club” residency for a country artist. Country music artists, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and Garth Brooks performed in Las Vegas “showrooms” in the past. Boyd spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the monumental deal, “I am honored and excited to join Rascal Flatts in what will be an epic group of shows at Hard Rock Hotel.” Boyd continued, “It is yet another check mark on my bucket list of things that I previously only dreamed of.” It was reported that Kanye West was offered a 4.5 million dollar Las Vegas residency deal at Axis Planet Hollywood, but West refused the deal.
