Maria Minerva – Galaxy

Maria Minerva does her best to make it through the fog in this electronic pop music video for Galaxy. Wrapped up tight in a fantastic looking coat, Minerva passes many great New York City staples such as the Fox News building and Alice + Olivia, yet the presence of a morning fog stops any glamour these locations could have in the video. While some may find this a frustrating barrier between the video and the viewer, it does effectively capture the look and feel of a rough NYC morning.
As for the song itself, it’s a very calming story of a journey taken into the soul of another human being. The multitudes of people present in the video juxtapose the intimacy of the lyrics, suggesting that such a human connection is almost impossible when lost in the crowd of daily city life. Every so often, the camera loses track of Minerva as she herself gets lost in the crowd of “souls she’ll never get to.” It’s one of those common tragedies that happen to millions of people in the city every day, and Minerva expresses it very well.
