Madonna Receives Forty-Fourth Number One Single

Madonna just made Billboard history by earning her 44th Number 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. The singer’s “Living for Love” just reached the top of the dance charts, which measures their reports from a national sample of club DJs. The pop legend is now tied with George Strait, who has 44 Number 1 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart. “Living for Love” is featured on Madonna’s Rebel Heart album, which will officially be released on March 10th. Some of the singers’s other number one singles on the dance chart include “Like A Virgin” (1984), “Express Yourself” (1989), “Vogue” (1990), and “4 Minutes” featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland (2008).

This year, Madonna will take the stage at the BRIT Awards in London. The last time she performed at the awards show was twenty years ago. Madonna won the Best International Female Brit award in 2001 and 2006. The award’s chairman, Max Lousada, said the show is delighted to bring the pop icon back. He believes her performance will make the awards show an unforgettable night. Not everyone is excited about the singer returning to the awards show. Pop singer Morrissey wrote a long essay detailing his distaste for the awards show, which included Madonna’s appearance at the show. Morrissey referred to the pop singer as “MacDonna,” and he called her career “frightening.” “The Brits launch party highlighted a song that reached no higher than Number 62 on the UK chart,” he wrote referring to Madonna’s song on the UK music charts.

Morrissey also had an issue with Taylor Swift, who is also performing at the awards show this year. The pop singer believes the Brit Awards have abandoned their heritage by serving modern music. “In the guise of serving the public, the Brit Awards have hi-jacked modern music in order to kill off the heritage that produced so many interesting people,” Morrissey wrote. He continued, “The maximum trimmings divert your attention from the fact that Taylor Swift has nothing to do with Coventry or Wrexham.” Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, and others will also perform that night. Sam Smith leads all the other nominees with five nominations, some of which include Best British Single (“Stay With Me”) and Album of the Year (In the Lonely Hour). The awards show will take place at London’s O2 Arena on the 25th of February. UK reality television stars, Ant & Dec, will host the 2015 BRIT Awards.
