Madonna, Empire Battling for Top of Albums Chart

Madonna and the Empire soundtrack are both vying for the top spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. According to reports, Rebel Heart and the Empire soundtrack have both sold 125,000 copies worldwide since the projects were released on March 10th. The Billboard 200 chart tracks physical sales, track equivalent albums, and streaming sales. The battle for the Number 1 spot will end on March 18th, when the Billboard 200 chart will be revealed.

If Madonna‘s Rebel Heart reaches the top of the charts, it will become her ninth Number 1 album. The pop singer’s MDMA (2012) was her last studio album to go to number one. If Fox’s Empire soundtrack manages to defeat Rebel Heart, it will be the first soundtrack since Glee (2010) to go to the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart.

Madonna stopped by The Howard Stern Show to discuss her new album, and a tragic incident she faced during her first year in New York. “I was going to a dance class and [my] door was locked and I needed money for the pay phone. A man gave it to me. He was a very friendly guy. I trusted everybody,” Madonna told Stern. The pop singer stated that the man told her that she could use the phone in his apartment. “I was raped. The first year I lived in New York,” Madonna said. The man raped her at knifepoint, but she never contacted the police. “You’ve already been violated. It’s just not worth it. It’s too much humiliation,” the pop singer stated. Even after the horrific situation, Madonna said she never considered going back home to Michigan.

The lighter moments during her Howard Stern interview included the pop singer discussing her friendship with Michael Jackson. Madonna said she immediately bonded with Jackson because they both lived very public lives. “We didn’t really have a relationship about me revealing myself to him, but making fun of the crazy world we were living and working in,” Madonna told Stern. The pop singer also revealed she briefly dated Tupac Shakur. Madonna confirmed they dated one year before the legendary rapper was gunned down in Las Vegas.
