Woman Rescues Baby Kitten – Soon Realizes It’s Not What It Seems

Animal rescue workers are incredibly devoted toward taking care of animals in need. So when one woman got a call about an abandoned baby kitten she quickly rushed over to help. However, once she held the kitten in her arms, she realized it wasn’t a kitten at all!

20. Rescue Volunteer

Martine Vos is a volunteer rescuer with Cat Shelter Limburg, a Belgium-based group that specializes in caring for homeless felines. Last week, she received a phone call about a cat that was in desperate need of help. She immediately jumped into action.

19. Phone Call

A man had called the shelter and was not sure what to do about a little kitten that he had discovered. So instead of letting it fend for itself, he called the shelter for some advice. They then provided all of the necessary help.

18. Black Kitten

A man called our rescue number because he found a very little black kitten, only a few days old,” Vos told The Dodo. “He asked us to come and pick up this little baby.”

17. Unknown

So Martine rushed over to go pick up the poor little kitten. However, little did she know that the situation wasn’t going to turn out quite the way she expected…

16. Searching

Once Martine was with the little kitten, she and her team began searching for its mother. However, there was no sign of any family nearby. This was when Martine realized that she would have to find a foster home for this little kitten.

15. Strange

It was around this time when Martine noticed that there was something very strange about this little kitten. It was unlike any baby kitten she had held before. This began the mystery…

14. Different

When I took the baby in my hands, she seemed really big and it felt totally different how a kitten should feel,” Vos said. That’s when Martine looked closer at the kitten’s face and made a huge revelation. The face didn’t look like a kitten either!

13. Shocked

Vos was pretty shocked by her discovery and was unsure of what to do next. It was pretty obvious to her that the animal was not a cat, so what was it? Well, she decided to take it to the vet’s promptly after.

12. Vet

Vos and her colleague brought the little baby over to the vet’s office, hoping to get a clear answer then. However, the vet seemed to be just as confused about the origins of the baby as they were. This was not looking good!

11. Baby Girl

The one thing she was sure of is that it was a baby girl,” Vos said. Other than that, the vet didn’t have a clue as to what the animal was. So Martine decided to bring the baby over to some wildlife rescuers.

10. Rescue Center

Martine headed over to a nearby wildlife rescue center. She showed the workers there the little baby and they immediately knew what kind of animal they were dealing with here! So what was it?

9. Mystery Solved

Finally, the mystery was solved! It seems that the animal was a tiny baby fox! “They recognized it as a baby fox,” Vos said. But, why was it such a dark shade?

8. Fur Color

It seems that baby foxes have a very different fur color from their adult versions. They can often have very dark black coats. This explains why the baby fox had such a dark coat. They also have very cat-like features when they are young.

7. Happy

Vos was incredibly happy to have solved the mystery of the unknown baby. She was mystified for hours trying to figure out what the animal could be. Now, the mystery revealed itself as a tiny fox.

6. Thrilled

However, Vos was also thrilled for an entirely different reason as well. “Firstly, because I am really interested in the native wild animals,” she said. “And because of my surname ‘Vos’, which means ‘fox’ in Dutch.” It was also a dream come true for her!

5. Meeting A Fox

It was my dream to meet a fox in real life. So holding this little baby fox in my hands and preventing it from a certain death was a dream that came true!” So what has become of the baby fox now?

4. Cared For

For now, the fox has been placed under the watchful eye of wildlife experts. She will be raised by them until she is old enough to return to the wild. Even though what she found wasn’t a kitten, Vos is still happy to have helped.

3. Helping Out

“As a volunteer for Cat Shelter, I am committed to help animals in danger or in need, especially the very young kittens,” she said. “In this case, it made me feel good that I was part of the rescue of this baby.”

2. Second Chance

Now she has a good chance to get a life in her own habitat. And I hope she will be released into the wild again and have a lot of baby foxes of her own.” Martine is very happy to have helped as much as she did!

1. New Life

Thanks to Martine and her colleague’s help, this young fox has been given a second chance at life. It will soon be frolicking in the wild along with its friends!
