Wale‘s The Album About Nothing will be released on March 31st. Before he drops his new project, the rapper is debuting a new song from his upcoming project entitled “The White Shoes.” The record will exclusively drop on Rhapsody tonight at midnight (Eastern standard time). Rhapsody members will be the first to get an exclusive listen to “The White Shoes.” Rhapsody’s new audio card integration with Twitter will allow their members to share the new song with their Twitter followers and friends. Wale and other Rhapsody subscribers will be streaming the full record on Twitter via the Rhapsody audio card.
The Album About Nothing is in reference to the rapper’s obsession with the Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards) hit television series. Seven years ago, Wale dropped The Mixtape About Nothing, which was also in reference to the Seinfeld sitcom. The rapper and comedian have actually developed a unique friendship over the years, and they both appeared on the cover of Complex magazine in 2014.
Although Jerry Seinfeld will not be featured on The Album About Nothing, Wale said he has gained a lot of wisdom from the comedian by their conversations. Seinfeld stated he highly respects Wale as an artist, and he was impressed with the rapper after he watched him record his album in the studio. The comedian said rapping and stand-up comedy are two totally different avenues. While the two entities may be different, Wale jokingly said that Seinfeld speaks a lot using metaphors, which is a popular rapping style in hip hop music.
Wale’s second single from The Album About Nothing was “The Matrimony” featuring Usher. The song entered the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart at Number 41, after selling over 19,000 digital downloads. The hit record also made an impact on the Rap Airplay chart. After generating 5.9 million audience impressions on radio, “The Matrimony” debuted on the rap chart at Number 20 position.
Wale signed to Ross’ Maybach Music Group four years ago. The Album About Nothing will be the rapper’s third studio project as a Maybach Music Group recording artist. Wale’s The Gifted album was released almost two years ago, and it impacted the Billboard 200 charts at the Number 1 spot. The project produced four singles including “Bad,” “LoveHate Thing,” “Bad (Remix),” and “Clappers.” Gifted featured guest appearances Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Ne-Yo, 2 Chainz, and more. The album is close to reaching Gold certification with 400,000 copies sold.
