Uber: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

If you already didn’t know, Uber is a transportation service a person can use from their phone which provides a cheaper way to travel when compared to traditional taxi services. However, there is a lot more to the company and its drivers that the regular Uber customer doesn’t know. Here are some crazy things you probably didn’t know.

Number Fifteen: They Help People with Families. The majority of people who work at Uber have dependents, meaning that they have children or other family members to take care of. We think this is a nice thing for customers to know.

Number Fourteen: They Take Risks. For a company this lucrative, it is interesting to see how often they are open to new ideas. For a moment, the company launched a side project known as UberMOTO, which gave people the choice to ride on a motorcycle. It didn’t last too long.

Number Thirteen: They Support Robotics. The company makes a lot on a daily basis. Recently, Uber donated over five million dollars towards robotics. The robotics that was produced was a new robotics faculty chair for Carnegie Mellon University.

Number Twelve: They Tied with Facebook. When the taxi service raised money last year (in 2015) they managed to raise nearly five billion dollars. To make matters more impressive, they were – at the time – to have been valued at around 51 billion dollars, tying with Facebook’s private fundraising record.

Number Eleven: It’s Older Than You May Think. Although it only seems as if people have been talking about this service for a couple of years now, Uber has actually been around since 2009. In three more years, that’ll be a decade!

Number Ten: Most People Drive to Set Their Own Schedule. The appeal of working at a company which allows you to make your own schedule is a great one and is only becoming more desired as the years pass. This preference is had by the majority of Uber’s drivers: nearly 87 percent of drivers agree that it’s one of the best parts of the position.

Number Nine: They Help Veterans. Unfortunately, many veterans find themselves out of work after long months and years serving the country. Uber, however, helps this issue by hiring veterans. Almost 10 percent of all drivers are made up by them. Like this article? Stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
