Top 8 Insanely Stupid Things Bought by Billionaires

Billionaires are some of the most eccentric and misunderstood people in the world, but what do they really spend their money on? Just like regular people, billionaires sometimes buy things that are just plain stupid. Here’s a list of the eight dumbest things billionaires have ever purchased. Prepare to lose your faith in humanity.

Number Eight: An Overpriced Haircut. The Sultan of Brunei once paid 15,000 pounds or about $2,300 for a haircut. He even ordered a special cabin for the barber. The Sultan is also the owner of a 14 million dollar Rolls Royce.

Number Seven: A Signature. Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan belongs to the royal family in the United Arab Emirates. Hamad has his own island, but he wanted to make sure everyone knew it, so he decided to have people actually etch his name into the ground of the island so deep that waterways were formed. His ultimate goal was for his name to be seen from the moon. While no information was released about how much this cost, the billionaire has spent millions on other lavish things, so it was likely astronomical.

Number Six: A Diamond Mercedes-Benz. Around 2010, rumors began to spread that Saudi Prince Alwaleed purchased a Mercedes-Benz made completely out of diamonds and even charged people $1,000 to touch it. However, those rumors have been put to rest, but just imagine if they were true! The car reportedly cost $48 million to make.

Number Five: A Personal Skyscraper. Mukesh Ambani decided he wanted a skyscraper all to himself and spent $2 billion constructing what is now know as Antilia, located in South Mumbai. He has hired more than 600 people just to take care of the building’s upkeep.

Number Four: Plastic Surgery. Jocelyn Wildenstein is famous for her looks, but not in a good way. The billionaire notorious for extravagant spending habits spent a whopping four million dollars on her own face. Unfortunately, she has received a lot of negative press for her looks and is considered to be one of the worst cases of botched plastic surgery ever.

Number Three: A Yacht. Costing about $450 million, the Eclipse Yacht was purchased by billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2010. The Eclipse is the second largest private yacht in the world, and perhaps the biggest waste of money.

Number Two: A Watch. Get ready, because this one’s a mouthful. The Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication Watch is the most complicated watch ever made and weighs an entire pound. An anonymous bidder bought the watch in 2014 for $25 million.

Number One: Leonardo da Vinci’s Journal. Bill Gates paid just over $30 million dollars for one of famed inventor Leonardo da Vinci’s journal. Though da Vinci is arguably one of the most brilliant humans ever to have lived, spending millions just to own a journal seems more than a little outlandish.
