Many of us flip on our favorite childhood shows or movies when we’re feeling nostalgic. On our trips down memory lane, we sometimes run into a character whose style instantly leaves us so starry-eyed that we just can’t take our eyes off of them. In the famous words of Yves Saint Laurent, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Original and oh-so-fabulous, these fashionable fictional characters embody that quote with their styles. When hunting for outfit inspiration while getting dressed, look no further than these five, fabulous fashion icons we all grew to know and adore.
Number Five: Hilary Banks. Hilary Banks, from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, set the bar sky high for sophisticated, glamorous career wear. As a weather girl and daytime talk show host, Hilary knew how to work the camera with her tailored, color-blocked blazers and lavish hats to match. The girl clearly had expensive taste, but even daddy’s money can’t put a price on a spectacular wardrobe like Hilary’s.
Number Four: Raven Baxter. Ok, so she may have not been around til the early 2000s, but everyone’s favorite teenage clairvoyant, Raven Baxter from the Disney hit That’s so Raven is just too stylish to leave off the list. Her looks pack a punch with vibrant patterns, just like her bold and sassy personality. She even designed a great deal of her own clothes, for which I give her major kudos. Even if she didn’t end up winning “Best Dressed” at her school, Raven will forever stand out with her one-of-a-kind getups, putting the “chic” in “psychic.”
Number Three: Angela Chase. When it comes to fashion, sometimes less is more. My So-Called Life darling Angela Chase proves this to be true with her effortless, cool style. Her cute floral dress, oversized flannel, and docs combo has become a 90s staple that so many girls still replicate in this day and age. Plus, it’s not easy to rock dyed red hair, and Angela pulls it off with flying colors.
Number Two: Lisa Turtle. Saved By The Bell‘s Lisa Turtle rightfully deserves second place on this countdown of childhood fashionistas. We all know that one girl who knows fashion like the back of her hand. For the students at Bayside High, Lisa was the style guru of the school. She strutted the halls of her school in eye-catching designer ensembles with mad confidence. It’s no wonder Lisa went on to fashion school after receiving her high school diploma. Had she been a real person, I could totally see Miss Turtle becoming a world-renowned designer (and I’d probably end up splurging on pieces from her line. No shame!)
Number One: Cher Horowitz. You guessed it: number one’s spot has to go to the one and only Cher Horowitz from the 90s classic, Clueless. Cher is the quintessential queen of 90s fashion, yet her ensembles prove to stand the test of time. Two decades later, and celebrities like Iggy Azalea pay tribute to the Cher’s flawless style by recreating her signature yellow and plaid skirt suit in the 2014 video for “Fancy.” Every year since the release of the film, we see girls from all over dressing up as the Clueless beauty for Halloween. Miss Horowitz’s infectious preppy and posh style remains just as relevant in 2016 as it did in 1995. At this rate, it’s safe to say that Cher will carry on as one of the greatest fashion icons for years to come.
