Top 10 Kid-Friendly Dog Breeds (Part 1)

Getting a dog can be a fun family activity, but choosing the right breed is extremely important, especially if you have young kids. Rather than let your kids become attached to the dog before realizing the dog you have isn’t good for children, it’s best to do your research first. Here, we present our list of the top 10 kid-friendly dog breeds. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Ten: Bulldogs. Bulldogs might look intimidating, but the truth is that they’re gentle giants. They have a sturdy build, which means they won’t back away if a particularly rough kid tries to play with them. They are friendly and loyal; however, they are not particularly energetic, so if you need a dog that’s going to run next to you in the morning, move right along.

Number Nine: Beagles. Beagles were originally bred to be hunting dogs, but they make a great family pet as well. Beagles are small enough to fit in any size home, and they are gentle enough to get along with children of any age. Beagles have a very pleasant disposition and are always happy to play. However, they need to spend a significant amount of time outside, and they require a lot of brushing.

Number Eight: Bull Terriers. No, bull terriers aren’t really aggressive! Bull terriers were originally bred to be a companion animal, and they are incredibly loving to their guardians. Bull terriers are perfect for kids who like to pull and tug at everything because they have a very high tolerance for pain. They are also protective, so you don’t have to worry about going to sleep with young children at night.

Number Seven: Collies. Collies rarely bite humans, and they are one of the most gentle breeds that exists. If your children are into tricks, then you’ll be happy to know that collies are particularly easy to train, and they love making their guardians happy.

Number Six: Newfoundlands. Newfoundlands are so kid-friendly that they’re nicknamed “nature’s babysitter”! Newfoundland dogs love kids, and they are also very patient. Newfoundlands might look big, but the truth is that they’re incredibly gentle and easy to love. Stay tuned for part two of our list of the top 10 kid-friendly dog breeds, coming soon!
