Number Five: Pill Box Hats. These boxy hats were popularized by Jackie Kennedy in the 1960s and remain a staple of ’60s fashion. Pill box hats have a flat crown, upright sides, and no brim.
Number Four: Colorful Jumpsuits. Though one-piece jumpsuits have slowly been repopularized into today’s fashion, the jumpsuits of the 1960s featured wild colors and patterns all over them. In the 1960s, women wore jumpsuits to represent their carefree and hippie nature. Instead of sticking with outfits of one color, jumpsuits were a way for women to truly express their creativity and colorful personalities.
Number Three: Leopard Print. It’s true! Leopard print everything was popularized in the 1960s. Though it was a novelty at the time, it slowly became mainstream and is used as a pattern on many pieces of women’s clothing today. Women of the 1960s who wanted to explore their wild side would often wear leopard print coats, dresses, or hats.
Number Two: Gloves. Here we have another trend made popular by ’60s style icons Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy – gloves. Long, silk gloves were the perfect way for women of the 1960s to show off their elegance and class. Hepburn would often wear gloves that were black and went up to her elbows while Kennedy would wear white gloves that ended halfway up her forearms.
Number One: Oversized Sunglasses. No, they’re not just a way to hide a hangover! Oversized sunglasses were popularized in the 1960s as a way for women to feel glamorous or just as a way to hide as much of their face from the sun as possible. Jackie Kennedy is again responsible for helping to push this trend into the mainstream. Oversized sunglasses have made an enormous comeback today, and every summer, you’ll undoubtedly see girls walking down the streets wearing giant sunglasses.
