Former Blink 182 founding member, frontman, and guitarist Tom DeLonge has been very busy as of lately. In an Instagram post, which has since been deleted, DeLonge announced that he has co-authored fifteen novels and has plans to release an EP for each book; citing this as one of the reasons for Blink 182’s latest falling out. He also went on to say that not only was his manager’s letter to the band sent without his knowledge, but it was misconstrued as well.
“One of the reasons all this Blink stuff went haywire was because I am in 6 contracts with Best Selling Authors that are co-writing 15 Novels with me personally. Each one has an EP soundtrack that launches with it. I told my manager the contract that was sent to me for the Blink deal contained weird new language that I had to drop all that music for almost a year. I said I couldn’t, but I could record the album in and around those things that were already in the works. He wrote them an email saying I’m out- (I didn’t know- and he was only talking about the deal) next thing you know, a press release saying things I didn’t say. Here we are….. Well…. Read a f***ing book- at least one of mine, please. Christ.”
Aside from his literary aspirations, DeLonge plans to release four albums this year as well, “2 albums with [Angels & Airwaves], 2 albums from myself. 3 of them are released with Novels. This has been in the works for a couple years.” DeLonge’s first solo album, an eight track album titled To the Stars…Demos, Odds, and Ends, is due out late April of this year; its first single, “New World,” has already been released and is receiving generally positive reviews.
While DeLonge has been keeping himself occupied through his various musical endeavors, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have been busy with Blink 182. Wednesday night, March 18th, the band played their first show without DeLonge; Alkaline Trio‘s Matt Skiba is filling in for him as well as at Sunday’s Musink Festival. Though the future of Blink 182 is still unknown (DeLonge has not officially left the band despite Barker’s suggestion that he should just “man up and quit the band”) and for the time being, they are being announced as Blink 182- with Matt Skiba.
