Earlier this year Tom DeLonge, of both Blink 182 and Angels and Airwaves fame, announced that he had plans to co-author a total of fifteen books though he did not provide the details of which “best-selling authors,” he would be working with. After nearly five months, it appears as though DeLonge has kept good on his promise, revealing Tuesday afternoon that three of the fifteen books would be co-written by Arizona high school English teacher and author, Suzanne Young. DeLonge used his Facebook page to make the announcement, stating that book one of the Poet Anderson trilogy, titled Poet Anderson …Of Nightmares, would be due for release on October 6th of this year through the publishing company Simon & Schuster. Poet Anderson …Of Nightmares is a story based on a pair of orphaned teenage brothers, who try rebuilding their lives, ”But normal is nowhere in sight as unseen forces wreck their lives in every possible way. Tragedy leaves Alan in a coma and young Jonas left to fight for both of their lives against enemies from a dark nightworld,” reads the official press release for the book.
To prepare for the trilogy, which also includes an accompanying Angel and Airwaves EP for each book, DeLonge wrote and directed the animated short film, Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker, released an Angel and Airwaves LP titled Dream Walker, and co-wrote the comic book series Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker as well. In a recent interview DeLonge revealed that a study by Stanford University about nightmares and the subconscious effect they have on people, inspired the Poet character. He also stated that he hoped to make Poet Anderson “something that could be really, really big over time. And something that we can keep revisiting.” While the book doesn’t hit stores until early October, DeLonge’s production company is offering pre-order for a limited time. Pre-order bundles vary between digitial packages for under twenty dollars to the REM bundle which includes a t-shirt, a digital copy of the book as well as a hardcover copy, and a signed poster among other things.
DeLonge is not the only Blink 182 member releasing a book later this year. In fact, drummer Travis Barker’s memoir titled, Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums is set to hit shelves October 20th.
