Tim Cook: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Tim cook, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the CEO of Apple that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: He Is Extremely Frugal. As both a regular person and a CEO, Cook is notoriously frugal. He lived without air conditioning for years, and he reportedly buys his underwear in bulk and on sale. In his workplace, Cook has been described as a person who “would haggle over a nickel to drive profits.”

Number Seven: He Separates His Home Life From His Work Life. In fact, Cook works out at a different gym than the one offered to Apple employees. The one behavior Cook does that helps him appear more approachable is that he will occasionally eat lunch with random employees in Apple’s cafeteria.

Number Six: He Has Very Few Fears. Cook has stated that he doesn’t even have a fear of falling, and he embraces the things he is “afraid” of. In an interview, Cook revealed his philosophy, saying, “If you start fearing things, then you don’t try anything new or different. If it doesn’t work out, it’s not the end of my world. I’ll go ride my bike.”

Number Five: He Worked for the Enemy. Before he was with Apple, Cook actually worked for rival tech company IBM for 12 years. However, we all know how that ended up.

Number Four: He Took Night Classes to Get His MBA. While Cook was with IBM, he attended Duke to earn his MBA. In order to get his MBA while working with IBM, he had to take night classes.

Number Three: He Is Quietly Calm. One story goes that Cook was in a meeting with other executives and discussing a problem in China. Cook offhandedly mentioned that someone should be there dealing with it, and he left the room. When he came back a little later, he looked at an executive and asked him why he was still there. The executive left for China on a plane immediately.

Number Two: He Appreciates Nature. Rather than travel to foreign lands or lay on a Florida beach, Cook has said that his ideal vacation would be to go hiking in Yosemite National Park.

Number One: He Got Some Advice From Steve Jobs. Cook was named CEO the very same day Jobs stepped down. Jobs’ advice to Cook was “to never ask what [Jobs] would do; just to do what’s right.”
