Three Dog Night: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

We already brought you part one of our list of 15 things you probably did not know about Three Dog Night, and now we’re back with part two! Check out eight more fascinating facts about the iconic American rock band that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!

Number Eight: They Scored an Insane Number of Top 40 Hits. From the years of 1969 to 1974, Three Dog Night released at least one Top 40 single every three months. This lasted for nearly six consecutive years. Now that’s impressive.

Number Seven: One of Their Members Was Almost a Monkee. Key member Danny Hutton actually auditioned to be part of The Monkees before he was part of Three Dog Night. Thankfully, he did not make the cut for The Monkees.

Number Six: Chuck Negron Was Good at Basketball. He even played for his college team! Negron attended Cal State.

Number Five: Cory Well Was an Expert Fisherman. He was so good, in fact, that he eventually became an editor for the magazine Outdoor Life. Talk about well-rounded!

Number Four: Negron Has Made Some Interesting Claims. He once claimed that his genitals split open while he was having sex with a groupie. Whether that was attributable to having sex too often or an STD is unclear, but it has never been officially confirmed.

Number Three: They Have 12 Gold Albums. Not only that, but they also recorded 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits. Seven of those hits achieved gold status. The very first gold record that Three Dog Night recorded was One. One was both directed and written by Harry Nilsson.

Number Two: They Were Featured in Several Films and Television Shows. Several of Three Dog Night’s songs have been featured in films. Some of these films and shows include Robotech: The Movie, The Wonder Years, Forrest Gump, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The X-Files. The most recent television series they were featured in is an episode of iZombie that aired in 2015.

Number One: There Have Been 27 Members of Three Dog Night. Since the band’s inception in 1967, 27 people have had the honor of playing as a member of Three Dog Night.
