Superfruit, the YouTube-based musical duo comprised of Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, released a cover of Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé’s “Feeling Myself” on their popular YouTube channel today. Armed with the song’s instrumental track, the duo arranged and performed a unique vocal rendition of Minaj and Beyoncé’s brag-filled anthem. Hoying and Grassi split the vocals more evenly between themselves, turning Minaj’s rapped verses into a more melodic production and singing in perfect harmony when not soloing on the track. Hoying and Grassi share an appreciation for Beyoncé, and the duo has recorded an homage to her Beyoncé album in the past. The duo has also recorded and posted a tribute to Miley Cyrus on their channel.
“Feeling Myself” is a fan favorite off Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint, the rapper’s hugely successful third studio album. Since its release, The Pinkprint has given birth to several singles, including the Sir Mix-A-Lot sampling “Anaconda,” her collaboration with label-mates Drake and Lil Wayne, “Only,” and several other releases. It is expected that Beyoncé and Minaj will release “Feeling Myself” at some point during the promotional schedule for the album. They have collaborated together in the past on a remix of Beyoncé’s “Flawless,” which was included on a deluxe rerelease on Bey’s Beyoncé album. Recently, The Pinkprint was certified Gold in the United States, meaning that more than 500,000 copies of the album have been sold to date. Currently, Minaj is preparing to embark upon a European tour in an effort to promote the album.
With more than 1 million subscribers and 88 million combined views, Hoying and Grassi founded Superfruit in August of 2013. The duo record weekly videos, some of which are musical releases while others are more typical YouTube videos that document their relationship as friends and housemates. When they aren’t releasing videos on their Superfruit channel, Hoying and Grassi are making music with Pentatonix, the a Cappella group they founded in 2011. The musical group has been heralded for revitalizing the prevalence of a Cappella music in an industry that has been favoring electronic production in recent years, and they have released three full-length albums. Recently, the group won their first Grammy in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category for their release titled “Daft Punk.” Currently, the band is working on an album of original music that is expected to release within the first half of 2015. Give their “Feeling Myself” cover a listen on their official YouTube channel.
FDRMX Eyes: French band Be-Boys have put out a new music video for “Game Over.” “Game Over” features black and white visuals and alternative rock music.
