After the release of the new Star Wars movie, fans are in love with the series now more than ever. But how much do you really know about Star Wars? We’re here to clue you in on what you don’t know about Star Wars, so pay close attention to what you can’t get from the movies. Also, check back for Part 2, coming in a few days!
Number Ten: The Actor Who was Banned. When you are the writer, producer, and director of a movie, you can do pretty much whatever you want in regards to it. Even, say, banning an actor you don’t like from conventions? Absolutely. George Lucas actually banned actor David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original trilogy, from attending Star Wars conventions because… well, he is annoying.
Number Nine: Chewbacca’s Wail. Chewbacca’s iconic wail is reiterated by fans, young and old, all across the globe. Believe it or not, his voice has quite the origin. Creepily enough, this character’s voice is produced from the sounds of a mix of lions, walruses, bears, and badgers along with various other dying animals.
Number Eight: Injury on Set. The trash compactor scene is arguably one of the best in the fourth Star Wars film, “A New Hope”. However, all good things must come at a cost. The scene, which utilized props of real garbage, caused actor Mark Hamill to hold his breath long enough to cause a blood vessel to pop on the side of his face.
Number Seven: The Marked Face. So… you won’t be seeing the blemish. Or will you? A bit of movie making magic had to be done to prevent the audience from seeing the popped blood vessel, and the framing took quite a while to alter and transform into a believable angle. Through all their efforts, however, fans have reported to seeing the blemish in a few scenes in the final take. In addition, the filming of Hamill’s X-wing cockpit scenes was significantly delayed from the incident.
Number Six: Yoda’s Understudy. The character of Yoda was made possible by an intricate puppet, and its operator/ voice, Frank Oz. However, when planning the movie, Yoda was originally meant to be played by a monkey wearing a mask and carrying a cane.
