Shawn Mendes has gone from having Vine popularity, to having the number one album in the US. The singer’s Handwritten project sold over 100,000 copies in its debut week, which was enough to put Mendes at the top of the Billboard 200 Chart. The 16 year old sensation is the youngest artist to reach the top of the Billboard 200, since Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 reached number one in 2010. Handwritten is Mendes’ first studio album, and it features the singles “Life of the Party,” “Something Bad,” and “Stitches.” “Life of the Party” peaked at Number twenty-four on the Billboard Hot 100, and it charted in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Belgium, and Australia.
Another notable entry on the Billboard 200 Chart is Tyler, the Creator‘s Cherry Bomb album. The project debuted at number four on the album charts, after it sold over 50,000 copies. Cherry Bomb features guest appearances from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams, and Schoolboy Q. Earlier this month, the rapper dropped the singles “F**king Young” and “Deathcamp.”Cherry Bomb is Tyler, the Creator’s fourth studio album. His other albums include Bastard, Goblin, and Wolf. The rapper’s sophomore project Goblin peaked at Number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, and it also topped the Independent Albums chart. It featured the singles “Yonkers,” “Sandwitches,” and “She” featuring Frank Ocean.
Wolf was dropped two years ago, and Erykah Badu, Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams, and Casey Veggies all contributed to the project. It entered the Billboard 200 chart at number three, and it peaked at Number one on the Top Rap Albums chart. The rapper is supposed to release a film entitled Wolf, which will be centered around the album. The trailer for Wolf premiered in 2013, but the movie has yet to be released. Besides his music career, Tyler The Creator has directed several of his music videos including “VCR,” “Bitch S**k D**k,” “Domo 23/Bimmer,” and most recently “F**king Young.” He has also directed music videos for Earl Sweatshirt (“Whoa”) and D.A. Wallach (“Glowing”).
Tyler, the Creator is currently on tour, and his next performance is scheduled for today in Athens (GA). The rapper will also perform in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, and Michigan. He will also head overseas next month for a several dates in the UK, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
