Number Eight: He Is Campaigning for a Self-Esteem Booster on DoSomething.org. Mendes’ mission in life is to stop cyber-bullying and help people boost their own self-esteem through self-empowerment and self-love. He recently launched a project that focuses on positivity.

Number Seven: He Wants to Live Like Just Another Normal Teenager. He might be guest-starring on shows and doing duets with celebrities, but at the end of the day, Mendes is just another teenager. His Instagram has featured his prom, workouts and other regular things that teenagers do.

Number Six: He Learned How to Play Guitar When He was 13 Years Old. Before he learned how to drive, Mendes was learning how to play the guitar. He has said that he helped teach himself how to play by following YouTube tutorials.

Number Five: He Plays Boom BeachJust like the rest of us, Mendes is not immune to the addictive qualities of silly apps and games. He says that he plays Boom Beach on his iPad every single night.

Number Four: His Secret to Life Is… Manuka honey! Mendes says that he believes manuka honey is “magic.” In case you didn’t know, manuka honey is honey from the manuka tree, which is native in Australia and New Zealand. It has often been touted as an alternative medicine.

Number Three: He Has Lost His Wallet More Than 10 Times. And he has broken his phone screen more than five times! Looks like Mendes is either unattached to his belongings or is just really, really clumsy and forgetful.

Number Two: He Is Not Afraid of Heights, But… Mendes says he would never bungee jump, despite the fact that he also says he is not afraid of heights.

Number One: He Is Proud to Be Canadian. Mendes has said that he believes British Columbia is the “best place on earth.”
