We already brought you part one of our series on the shark. Since there is so much more to learn about this amazing entertainer, here are few more factoids.

Number Eight: They Are Polite

Believe it or not, sharks can be pretty polite when it comes to eating. Each species has its own pecking order of which sharks eat first.

Number Seven: The Shark Can Control Fish Populations

Since smaller fish are the main source of food for many species of sharks, the surrounding populations have to constantly be on alert. This results in them becoming extremely stressed and may also have reproduction or migration issues.

Number Six: They Are Sensitive To Light

Many shark species prefer to live in deep ocean waters where it is very dark. Because a membrane called the tapetum lucidum though, they are able to see in murky water since the membrane makes them more sensitive to light.

Number Five: They Are Not The World’s Deadliest Animals

Contrary to popular belief, sharks do not kill or bite as often as the media makes it out to be. You would be more likely to be bitten by a dog, wasps, bees or hornets than a shark.

Number Four: Heartbeats Can Be Tracking Devices

If a shark is stalking its prey, one way to find it is by its heartbeat. This is because of electricity-sensing nodules on their noses called ampullae of Lorenzini.

Number Three: They Are Not Very Thick Skinned

Unlike humans, sharks only have two layers to their skin. The first, the top layer, is made up of dead cells. The second, the bottom layer, is made of sensory, nerve and blood cells.

Number Two: They Can Be Found Anywhere

If the media made it seem like sharks could not be found in a certain area, they would be wrong. Sharks can be found in all of the earth’s oceans, it just takes some serious looking.

Number One: They’re Lazy

If you see a shark and it comes charging at you, punch it in the nose or poke it in the eyes. Most of the time they don’t actually want to work to get their food. Thanks for reading our facts on sharks!
