Sarah Palin was, for some time, one of the most talked-about politicians in United States media. Though the 51-year-old may not be as relevant as she was a few years ago, she is still going strong. However, despite the fact that Palin has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know. Number Fifteen: She Was Born in Idaho. Though many people associate Palin with Alaska, in fact, she was born in Sandpoint, Idaho. She moved to Alaska with her family when she was three years old.
Number Fourteen: She Is an Athlete. Or she was an athlete, anyway. Palin played the role of point guard on her high school’s basketball team. She must have been good, too, because her team won the 1982 state championship. Her nickname on the team was “Sarah Barracuda.”
Number Thirteen: She Was Almost Miss Alaska. Two years after Palin graduated high school in 1982, she became Miss Wasilla. She eventually became the second runner-up to Miss Alaska as well.
Number Twelve: She Enrolled in Many Different Colleges. It’s true! Palin enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but she then transferred to Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu. She then transferred to North Idaho College, and she again enrolled at the University of Idaho in Moscow for an academic year beginning in 1984. In the fall of 1985, Palin attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska, and she finally graduated after returning to the University of Idaho in 1986.
Number Eleven: She Worked as a Sports Reporter. After graduating college, Palin returned to Alaska. It was there that she would work as a sports reporter for a television station in Anchorage, Alaska.
Number Ten: She Eloped With Her High School Sweetheart. Palin and husband Todd Palin eloped in the summer of 1988, and the two had been high school sweethearts.
Number Nine: She Was the First and Youngest Woman to Govern Alaska. Palin became the Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska in 1996. Ten years later, in 2006, she became the first and youngest women to become Alaska’s governor.
