Sam Smith‘s In the Lonely Hour is back at the top of the UK Albums chart. The album has been on the music charts for an impressive thirty-eight weeks. The soulful singer is fresh off of his Grammy Awards domination, in which he won four awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Stay with Me,” Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour, and Best New Artist. In The Lonely Hour is Smith’s debut studio album, which was released last year.
Smith revealed the album was inspired by his “unrequited” love for a married man. The singer said “I told all my secrets on that album,” and he famously thanked his former lover during one of his Grammy award acceptance speeches. The album features the singles “Money On My Mind,” “Stay with Me,” and “I’m Not the Only One.” To date, “Stay with Me” is Smith’s most successful single. It peaked at Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart, and reached the Number 2 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It has reached top ten status in over twelve countries worldwide. “Stay with Me” has sold six million copies worldwide.
The singer’s next plan of attack are the 2015 Brit Awards. Smith is nominated for five Brit Awards, which leads all other nominees. He is nominated for British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, Best British Single for “Stay with Me,” Video of the Year for “Stay with Me,” and British Album of the Year for In the Lonely Hour. This year’s Brit Awards ceremony will take place at London’s O2 Arena on February 25th. Sam Smith, Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran will perform at this year’s show, which will be hosted by Ant & Dec. They are known for starring on the UK reality show, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
The Wanted‘s Nathan Sykes is currently working on his solo album, and the singer told E! News he hopes to work with Smith. Sykes said he discussed going into the recording with Smith, and the two may record something next year. The pop singer describes his upcoming album as soulful pop music. Sam Smith just wrapped his North American tour on February 4th. The singer will embark on the international portion of his tour on March 1st in Belgium, and Smith’s tour will conclude on June 17th in Paris, France.
