Former college football player and current country music star Sam Hunt has been on the scene for a few years now. Though he has spent a lot of the last couple years in the spotlight, there are still some things that most people don’t know about the “Break Up in a Small Town” singer. Number Fifteen: One of His Albums Was Named After a Former Girlfriend. Hunt’s album, titled Montevallo, was actually named after the hometown of a former girlfriend, Hannah Lee Fowler. According to Hunt, “[Fowler’s] perspective was a powerful part of me being able to connect with a female audience, not just a male audience.”
Number Fourteen: He Was a Starting Quarterback. Before Hunt was a famous country music superstar, he was the starting quarterback for Middle Tennessee State University’s football team! He was there for two years, and then he transferred to the University of Alabama, where he was also a starting quarterback.
Number Thirteen: He Has a Degree in Economics. Hunt got his degree in economics from the University of Alabama. However, he was originally going to major in philosophy.
Number Twelve: He Did Not Learn How to Play Guitar Until He Was 18 Years Old. Hunt bought his first guitar when he was 18 years old, and he then taught himself to play. He taught himself how to play by learning other artists’ songs, and when he got bored of playing other people’s songs, he began to write his own.
Number Eleven: He Can Also Write Songs. Hunt co-wrote the 2012 hit “Come Over,” which Kenny Chesney sang. He also co-wrote Keith Urban’s “Cop Car.” He won an ASCAP award for his work on “Come Over.”
Number Ten: He Almost Joined the NFL. When Hunt graduated college, he was noticed by NFL and subsequently invited to training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he did not make the team, which spurred him to pursue his music career in Nashville.
Number Nine: He Surprised His Family. After missing the mark with the NFL, Hunt told his family he was moving to Nashville. This came as a giant shock to his family, who had no idea he was pursuing a career in music.
