Ringo Starr told the Times of London that he was affected for a long time after The Beatles disbanded. “I was drunk. Some of those years are absolutely gone. I was mad for twenty years. I had breaks in between of not being,” Starr stated. The former Beatles’ musician entered rehab in the late 1980s, after he admitted he felt lost and drinking made those feelings worse. “It got progressively worse, and the blackouts got worse, and I didn’t know where I had been,” Starr once told Peoplemagazine. He added,”I knew I had the problem for years. It plays tricks with your head. Very cunning and baffling is alcohol.” The Beatles played their last show on August 29,1966 at Candlestick Park (California), and next year will mark the show’s 50th anniversary.
As a solo musician, Starr has dropped eighteen studio albums. Some of those projects include Sentimental Journey, Beaucoups of Blues, Goodnight Vienna, Ringo’s Rotogravure, Stop and Smell the Roses, Choose Love, and his latest album entitled Postcards from Paradise.Postcards from Paradise was dropped last month, and it features songs penned by Richard Marx, Van Dyke Parks, Richard Page, Gary Nicholson, and Gregg Bissonette. A few of Starr’s solo hit songs include “Devil Women,” “Early 1970,” “Snookeroo,” “I Am The Greatest,” “The No No Song,” and “Goodnight Vienna.”
On April 18th, Starr will receive the Musical Excellence Award at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees ceremony. His award will be presented to him by Paul McCartney, and the legend will become the final Beatles’ member to receive the Excellence award as a solo musician.
