Researchers Have Discovered A Mysterious Hidden Tunnel, But When They Decide To Go Inside It, They Couldn’t Believe Their Eyes

If you happen to be a history buff that loves a good mystery then you’ll fall head over heels for this story. It seems that recent explorations have uncovered a secret hidden bunker in the depths of a Swedish mountain. Explorers have managed to take photos of the untouched Cold War bunker and the images are unbelievable. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a post-apocalyptic universe after taking a look at these.

20. Abandoned Military Base

There were various rumors going around that there happened to be an abandoned military base hidden in the Swedish mountains. A group of explorers decided to check it out and they came across Sweden’s defense against the Cold War going on at the time. Although they technically weren’t allowed to go inside, they came out with some of the most amazing images ever.

19. Trespassing Explorers

Back in May 2016, a group of explorers decided to trek through the bunker in order to see what was really going on in there. The group decided to remain anonymous since they weren’t legally allowed to go inside the bunker and photos were posted under an account called “todtodson,” on Imgur.

18. Secluded Area

The bunker happens to be set in an incredibly secluded area of Sweden. All of the rumors around it suggested that it was used as an old base for conducting surveillance in the Cold War era. However, for the past 25 years, the base has been completely untouched.

17. Keeping It Secret

Since finding the location and looking through it, the explorers have managed to keep the location a secret. They want to be able to preserve it so that random intruders don’t come in and take advantage of the space. One of the members of the team has also claimed that the bunkers are a symbol of the fight to protect freedom.

16. Spies

The 42-year-old, from Malmö, Sweden, said: “You feel like the spies have just been walking around it and as if they have only just walked out of the place. You can feel it. I have visited bunkers in Sweden before but none of them have been as complex as this one.”

15. Favorite Part

If you stand in front of the entrance then you see it straight away, but even if you’re stood just three metres away you don’t see it. My favourite part of it is when you enter through this massive steel door. You can see the walls of the mountain and as you move through suddenly it’s very quiet and it’s a house, an office, with a kitchen, a living room, places for sleeping.”

14. Amazing

It’s amazing. I’m not really sure how many people would have been there exactly when it was being used, it would have been very secret. Even if there had been 100 people in there you never would have noticed,” the anonymous explorer explained. So why share the photos?

13. Sharing The Photos

The group decided that they would share the photos of what they uncovered in order to shed light on Sweden’s history. The images have gone viral thanks to how amazing they are. There is a historical reason behind everything that you see in these photos.

12. Large Rooms

As the explorers went through the bunker they came across incredibly large rooms known as “magazines.” These rooms were used as storage spaces for ammunitions and explosives. In fact, the entire bunker was built as a means to shelter against an attack from the Soviet Union.

11. Secret Military Ties

Throughout the Cold War, Sweden had kept an outward political neutrality. However, secretly the country was actually forming close military ties with NATO. The legacy of that is proven through the bunker that has stood through the test of time.

10. Special Bunker

This bunker is a very special one because it’s out in the middle of forests. You don’t even have roads there. It’s set in a mountain, and built to withstand a nuclear bomb,” one of the group members explained. “The town I grew up in in Sweden is an old military town, so there are a lot of these old places. People growing up in the area know about them.”

9. Never Tell

A friend’s father owns a bit of land nearby so knew of the place. When we were given the coordinates, I was stood metres from the building and even then it took 15 minutes to find it. I think we’ve had around 200 people contacting us to ask about this place and where it is, but we will never tell.”

8. End of the Tunnel

The underground explorers finally came across what seemed to be the end of the tunnel and also the main entrance into it.  “This is the end of the underground base,” todtodson explained. “The entrance is sealed shut with thick concrete and unless you got tons of power tools, you ain’t getting through.

7. Unbelievable Captures

The photographer of the group was able to capture some of the most breathtaking images from inside of the bunker. As you can see, the entire bunker has a very Gothic feel to it. It is almost unbelievable that such a place exists.

6. Lots of Tunnels

Surprise surprise, the tunnel splits into two!” wrote todtodson. “Perfect opportunity for some cool photos.” The bunker seemed to be filled with mazes and large spaces where you could seemingly get lost. Users that saw the photos were incredibly intrigued.

5. Smaller Rooms

The group decided to follow through into one of the tunnels, hoping to find something interesting. However, all they came across was another smaller room. They came across some more magazines “but they were boring and small,” wrote todtodson.

4. Larger Rooms

As the group ventured into another tunnel they came across some larger rooms as well. “With all these large rooms,” wrote todtodson, “there’s plenty of space for parties, raves and other type of fun activities.” Seems like it is a good place to consider throwing a party!

3. Huge Door

You see that red and white behind my friend?” wrote todtodson. “That’s where the humongous concrete door is. No idea why it was needed there, maybe in case of a zombie outbreak?” It seems that everywhere they turned there was something fascinating to come across.

2. Continuing Explorations

The photographer in question has continued to go about his explorations by finding more abandoned and unknown areas to explore. He continues to take photos of these areas and share them with his many followers. His followers always look forward to an update.

1. Beautiful Sunset

Still, nothing quite compares to the beauty and magnitude of the bunker that he was able to explore. “Sunset at my favorite place,” he wrote. Although this bunker has continued to remain a mystery, it is quite an amazing discovery indeed.
