Nas confirmed he is releasing a new album this summer. The rapper revealed the album news at a show in Orlando, Florida. The last album the Queens rapper released was Life Is Good in 2012. The project entered the Billboard 200 Albums chart at Number 1, after it sold over 140,000 copies in its debut week. Life Is Good featured guest appearances from Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross, Anthony Hamilton, Miguel, Swizz Beatz, the late Amy Winehouse, and more. “Nasty” was the lead single from the album, and “The Don,” “Daughter,” and “Cherry Wine” featuring Amy Winehouse were also dropped as singles.
Nas’ other studio albums include Illmatic, It Was Written, I Am…, Nastradamus, Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes, God’s Son, Street’s Disciple, Hip Hop Is Dead, and Untitled. His debut studio project entitled Illmatic was released in 1994. Although the album wasn’t a huge commercial success, it is recognized as one of the greatest hip hop albums in music history. Illmatic included the singles “Halftime,” “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,” “Life’s a Bitch,” “The World Is Yours,” and “One Love.” His sophomore album, It Was Written, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. The album was a mainstream success, and it sold over four million copies in the US. The album’s single named “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)” featuring Lauryn Hill, reached Number 15 on the Hot Rap Singles, Number 17 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. The other singles include “Street Dreams,” “The Message,” and “Street Dreams (Remix)” featuring R. Kelly. “Street Dreams” contains a sample of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” To date, Nas’ projects have accumulated over 25 million album sales.
