Patti LaBelle Joining ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Dancing With the Stars announced its celebrity cast for the new season on Good Morning America today. R&B icon Patti LaBelle was named as one of the celebrities who will compete on the show this year. LMFAO‘s RedFoo and R5‘s Riker Lynch were also named to the cast. The new season of Dancing With the Stars will also feature Noah Galloway (US Army veteran), Robert Herjavec (Shark Tank), Nastic Liukin (gymnast), Charlotte McKinney (model-actress), Michael Sam (NFL free agent), Willow Shields (Hunger Games), Suzanne Somers (actress), and Rumer Willis (actress). ABC will air the season 20 premiere on March 16th at 8pm (Eastern standard time).

Pro dancer and Dancing With the Stars alum, Derek Hough, made the surprise announcement that he will be back this season. Hough recently revealed that he was not going to compete on DWTS this year, because he was going to perform in the Radio City Spring Spectacular. “This all happened literally two days ago. I had a little heartbreak not being able to be a part of the 10th anniversary, the 20th season,” Hough said on Good Morning America. He added, “It’s such a huge milestone for Dancing With the Stars. It’s my family, so I wanted to be a part of it. I’m so glad we made it happen. Let’s make it the best season ever.”

Patti LaBelle’s music career spans fifty years, and she was the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles for sixteen years (later changed their name to LaBelle in the 1970s). The Labelles most recognized song, “Lady Marmalade,” was a huge hit in 1974. The song went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and it was inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003. A pop version of “Lady Marmalade” was released by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink, and Lil Kim in 2001. Patti LaBelle embarked on her solo career in 1977, and she has had a long list of successful songs including “If Only You Knew,” “New Attitude,” and “On My Own” (duet with Michael McDonald). Patti LaBelle, also known as the Godmother of Soul, has sold over fifty million albums worldwide. The soul singer was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2003, and she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards in 2011.

FDRMX Eyes: Meric Long and Logan Kroeber of The Dodos recently premiered their music video for “Competition.” The indie rock duo perform a fun choreography shot in one take.
