Nile Rodgers Launches FOLD! Festival in New York

Nile Rodgers is launching his newly formed FOLD! (Freak Out Let’s Dance) Festival in New York this summer. The festival will be infused with funk, pop, rock, country, and hip-hop music. The first annual FOLD! Festival will take place in Long Island, New York at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead on August 4th and 5th. Some of the artists on the bill include Rodgers’ Chic band, Duran Duran, Beck, Keith Urban, Chuck D, Pharrell Williams, Eric B, and Janelle Monae. “Over two nights, Rodgers will create the ultimate mash-up between each artist’s distinctive sound and his own groundbreaking style,” a press release statement read. Tickets for the FOLD! Festival are available now on the Ticket Fly website.

Earlier this year, Rodgers signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. The legendary guitarist and his Chic band will release the album It’s About Time some time this year- through his new deal with Warner Bros. Chic is a band created by Rodgers and Bernard Edwards in the late 1970s. The band’s most successful songs are “Good Times,” “Everybody Dance,” “Le Freak,” and “My Forbidden Lover.” Chic have been nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nine times, but they have yet to receive the induction. Chic’s latest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination was earlier this year.

Along with his Chic project, Rodgers will provide production for Duran Duran’s Paper Gods album. Rodgers also produced songs on Duran Duran’s albums Notorious (1986) and Astronaut (2004). The Notorious album features the Rodgers-produced hit single of the same name. “Notorious” reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it also went to Number 1 on the singles chart in Italy, Canada, and Europe. Paper Gods will be released in September, and it will also feature production by Mark Ronson and Mr. Hudson. “Pressure Off,” the first single from the upcoming album, features singer Janelle Monae.

This summer, Duran Duran will embark on their world tour. The tour includes stops in Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, England, Scotland, Wales, as well as a few dates in North America. Their North America shows will include performances in New York, Washington, California, and Nevada at the Life is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas from September 25th through the 27th.
