Check out eight more fascinating facts about the singer and member of Backstreet Boys that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Eight: He Is Environmentally Conscious. Carter has stated that he cares a lot about the environment, and in 2007, he was named the United Nations Special Ambassador for the Year of the Dolphin. He has also worked with the Coral Reef Action Network and the United Nations Environmental Program.
Number Seven: He Struggled With Drugs and Alcohol. Carter has openly acknowledged that he has struggled with both drugs and alcohol. He was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, and that was a serious turning point for him. Cardiomyopathy is a deterioration of the heart muscle that can lead to heart failure.
Number Six: He Credits a Book for Turning His Life Around. Carter says that fellow Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson was the one who helped him get sober. Richardson gave him a book called Why Some Positive Thinkers Get Powerful Results, written by Norman Vincent Peale. Carter began living a healthier lifestyle after reading the book.
Number Five: He Is a Published Author. In 2013, Carter published his first book. The book is called Facing the Music And Living To Talk About It.
Number Four: He Knows BSB Isn’t That Cool Anymore. Carter has admitted that he is aware that Backstreet Boys are not nearly as cool as they were at the height of their fame. In an interview, Carter said, “We’re not cool anymore. But not being cool is actually cool in a strange way.”
Number Three: He Is Glad His Life Turned Out the Way He Did. When the Backstreet Boys were at their peak, Carter was 15 years old. At the time, there was no way for BSB to promote themselves the way that artists today can use YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. Because of this, he and the other Backstreet Boys had to work almost constantly to go to interviews and make other appearances. Despite his tough adolescence, he says that these experiences are what made him who he is today.
Number Two: He Has an Old Mentality. Carter says that he thinks the reason fans still buy tickets to go see the Backstreet Boys perform is because he is exactly that – a performer. The Backstreet Boys may not be selling as many albums as they once did, but they are still incredible performers.
Number One: He Has Some Interesting Fan Stories. Carter revealed in an interview that one of the craziest things a fan ever did was leave rehab. He said that a girl ran up to him and asked for a quick autograph because she had to be somewhere at a certain, time, and when he asked her where she had to be, she said she had to leave rehab to go see him!
