Nelly became the first American to perform in Kurdistan, Iraq. The rapper performed in the city of Erbil in Iraq on March 13th. According to Time magazine, Nelly performed at a charity concert that raised support for the Kurdistan people in the northern Iraq and Syria area who have been fighting ISIS. An organization named the Rwanga Foundation hosted the concert. The Rwanga Foundation’s Facebook page states their organization “assists the most vulnerable of the populace in Kurdistan (Iraq) and in the greater global community.”
The organization tweeted a photo of Nelly in Iraq, along with the caption, “Rwanda Foundation welcomes Nelly to Kurdistan.” Their website also posted a statement from the foundation’s Director of PR and Media, Taban Shoresh. “We are delighted and proud that the city of Erbil hosted this landmark charity concert and would like thank Nelly for his involvement,” Shoresh said. He continued,”The event was here to celebrate the people of this city, promote peace, and a chance to raise money for the millions of people who have been affected by the ongoing conflict.”
Nelly will join the New Kids On The Block on their Main Event summer tour, which begins on the May 1st in Las Vegas (NV). The tour, which also features TLC, will travel to Anaheim (CA), San Jose (CA), Vancouver (BC), Tacoma (WA), Dallas (TX), New Orleans (LA), Oklahoma City (OK), Kansas City (MO), and many other cities in North America. The Main Event tour has more than forty dates scheduled in the US. The tour will wrap on July 2nd at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York.
