It seems the SNL 40 after party was just as legendary as the anniversary special. The celebrities from the show all migrated to the Plaza hotel for a star-studded after party. Prince, Beyoncé, Jimmy Fallon, Bill Murray, Martin Short, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and countless other people were all spotted at the event. People on social media could barely keep up with all the photos that were being posted during the legendary party.
Questlove posted a video of Taylor Swift, Dan Aykroyd, Fallon, and Jim Belushi performing “I Saw Her Standing There.” Paul McCartney even joined Swift onstage for a rock rendition of her song “Shake It Off.” Prince took the stage and jammed out to “Let’s Go Crazy,” and he was joined by Fallon, Chris Rock, Martin Short, and HAIM. Pop divas Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Debbie Harry (Blondie) reportedly performed a rendition of Aretha Franklin‘s “Respect.” Video has yet to surface online for the Cyrus performance, but we can all assume Fallon was onstage for this performance, too. The B-52s even showed up to the event and performed “Love Shack,” alongside Fallon. Yes, Fallon pretty much joined all the musicians onstage. The late night talk show host could barely contain himself when he discussed the legendary after party on his show. The after party lasted until four in the morning, and from the looks of it, it was one of the most epic parties in entertainment history.
The SNL 40th anniversary show was a legendary night in its own right. The show featured performances from West, who performed a medley of “Jesus Walks,” “Only One,” and “Wolves.” “Wolves” is a new song that is supposed to be on his upcoming album, which is set to be released this year. McCartney performed a duet of the Beatles “I’ve Just Seen a Face” with Paul Simon, which made the crowd go wild with excitement. McCartney also performed “Maybe I’m Amazed,” while Simon returned later to close the show with a performance of “Still Crazy After All These Years.” Lenny Pickett and Co., and the Saturday Night Live band, also accompanied Paul Simon during his performance. SNL 40 also had a large number of sketches featuring past and present cast members and celebrities. Some of the anniversary show’s highlights included Melissa McCarthy paying tribute to the late Chris Farley, Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey teaming up for “Weekend Updates,” and a reel of some cast members’ audition tapes were displayed.
