MOANA recently released a new music video called “Golden Orb“, and it’s mesmerizing. This is truly authentic, gritty rock and roll music, reminiscent of Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Bjork or PJ Harvey. Since joining forces in 2013, MOANA have been electrifying the Australian music scene with its fierce live performances, hypnotic melodies, seductive aesthetic, and darkly mystic mood. Lead singer Moana Lutton intoxicates the camera with her wild eyes and eerie vocals. I especially love her shredded and tattered coat that blows in the wind while she glares into the distance. The music is heavy on the bass, with elements of grunge and psychedelia. The lyrics are dark, poetic and otherworldly. MOANA is this journalist’s favorite next iteration of the angry/arty female voice in rock music.
