Canadian singer-songwriter, Michael Buble, has been having a difficult week in terms of social media. While vacationing in Miami with his wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, he posted a photo she took of him grinning while standing in line. The photo has since received a great deal of backlash though due to the comment in which Bublé posted alongside the photo. In the photo’s description, Bublé gives notice to the unsuspecting girl ahead of him and comments on her backside which is partially hanging out of the bottom of her shorts. “There was something about this photo Lu took that seemed worthy of Instagram. #myhumps #babygotback #hungryshorts #picoftheday #beautifulbum,” Bublé captioned the picture. While many followers felt neither the comments nor the photo were distasteful, there were several people who felt that Bublé was body shaming the young woman and labeled the photo a “creep shot,” which has already received over 40,000 likes. Other people felt that while the comments weren’t derogatory, it was the fact that he not only posted a photo of the girl without her permission, but that he also turned her into the subject of the post without her consent, that upset them.
In light of the unintentional controversy caused by the photo, Bublé later took to his account to explain his side of the story, saying that those who know him personally know he would never purposely misinterpret the photo taken by his wife. He states that while the photo was meant to be very lighthearted, he recognizes that it seems to have taken a more offensive turn which he felt needed to be addressed. He also goes on to mention how hurt he is that his fans and the media believe he would intentionally disrespect not only women, but people in general, because that is not part of his character. “Women are to be celebrated, loved, respected, honored, and revered. I’ve spent my life believing that and will continue to do so,” he finished.
Bublé, who has just finished his To Be Loved tour, has recorded eight studio albums, six of them charting on Billboard 200 with four of them peaking at number one. His album It’s Time went triple platinum and both Call Me Irresponsible and Crazy Love went double platinum.
