Mark Ronson: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Mark Ronson has quickly become one of the most recognizable names in the music industry. Ronson is a multi-talented DJ, performer, and producer, and he shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. However, despite the fact that Ronson has spent a considerable amount of time in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the public eye, there are still some things that many people don’t know. Number Fifteen: He Asked Billy Joel Before He Sampled Him. Before Ronson decided to sample Joel’s “Zanzibar” while producing Action Bronson’s “Brand New Car,” he sent Joel a letter asking him if he could use the song. On the experience, Ronson said, “It’s amazing what the power of a polite letter can do for you.”

Number Fourteen: He Played at Paul McCartney’s Wedding. And he even played a Paul McCartney song at the wedding! Ronson was the DJ at the small, intimate affair. He said that people were excited when he played “Band on the Run.”

Number Thirteen: He Has Another Interesting Connection to The Beatles. Ronson’s best man at his wedding is John Lennon’s son, Sean Lennon. The two met each other when they were teenagers, and Lennon was immediately intrigued by Ronson’s cool vibes.

Number Twelve: He Can Barely Remember His Grammy Victory. Ronson said that he was doing a lot of cocaine at the time when he won his Grammy. He was drinking and going out five or six nights a week, and while he said it felt normal at the time, he realizes now that it was not a healthy lifestyle for him.

Number Eleven: He Opened for Spin Doctors. In the early 1990s, Ronson was the guitarist for a standard jam band. However, as part of the band, he got to open for Spin Doctors, which he said was the band’s biggest gig.

Number Ten: He Is Multi-Talented. Ronson is much more than just a DJ. In fact, he has worked on several hit songs that you might not even know he was a part of. Ronson produced Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” and Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab.”

Number Nine: Fame Runs in His Family. Ronson’s sisters are Charlotte and Samantha Ronson. Charlotte is a clothing designer, and Samantha is a DJ just like Mark.
