Mariah Carey is finally getting her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The pop icon will be honored on August 5th, and some of her guest speakers will include music executive L.A. Reid, director Lee Daniels (Empire and The Butler), and film producer Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand and Tower Heist). Carey and Ratner have be
en close friends for several years. This year rumors were circulating that the two were dating, although both vehemently denied the relationship accusations. The pop singer has been dating billionaire James Packer since her split from ex-husband Nick Cannon. Carey married Cannon in 2008, but they announced they were separated last year after six years of marriage.
Carey has sold over 200 million albums during her career, making her the top-selling female artist of the millennium. Some of her projects include her self-titled debut, Emotions, Music Box, Daydream, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi, and her most recent project #1 To Infinity. The Infinity album was dropped in May, and it features Carey’s 18 number one singles. “Vision of Love,” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” “I’ll Be There” (featuring Trey Lorenz), “Dreamlover,” “Fantasy,” and “Always Be My Baby” are some of the Number 1 hits on the project.
Carey’s “comeback” project entitled The Emancipation of Mimi was released ten years ago. It features the singles “It’s Like That,” “We Belong Together,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Say Somethin,'” and “Fly Like a Bird.” The Emancipation of Mimi entered the Billboard 200 at Number 1, and it has sold over 12 million copies worldwide.
During her twenty-year career, Carey has won 5 Grammy Awards (36 nominations), 21 World Music Awards (25 nominations), and 20 American Music Awards (38 nominations). She has also won an unprecedented 225 music awards. Besides a stellar music career, Carey has also appeared in several films. She even starred in the 2001 movie Glitter. Glitter was not a box office success, it only grossed a little over $5 million at the box office. She was also featured in two of Lee Daniels’ films, Precious (2009) and The Butler (2013).
The pop goddess is currently performing at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (NV). Her Las Vegas residency is scheduled to conclude on February 22, 2016.
