Pop superstar Rihanna has been drafted to headline the 2015 NCAA’s March Madness Music Festival, the musical entertainment portion of college basketball’s biggest showdown. The event is set to take place between Friday April 3rd and Sunday April 5th at White River State Park in Indianapolis. Rihanna is slated to take the stage on Saturday April 4th, the same day that the March Madness semifinal games will be played before the final game determines the ultimate champion on Monday, April 7th.
The news of the pop star taking the stage for the March Madness Music Festival follows the announcement that Rihanna’s new track, “American Oxygen,” would be the official theme song of this year’s March Madness. Snippets of “American Oxygen” have appeared in several promotional commercials for the series. The commercials have featured scenes of several of the most promising teams battling on the courts as well as snippets from what seems to be an official music video for the track, in which Rihanna can be seen performing the song in front of the American flag. The song is expected to debut in full on March 17th, the day that the tournament kicks off in earnest.
Rihanna will be joined by several other performers at the March Madness Music Festival. On April 4th, she will be taking the stage alongside the prolific singer-songwriter Bleachers. On Sunday, country acts Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, and Kacey Musgraves are scheduled to take the stage. News is still forthcoming regarding any other performers at this time; however, the event already features a promising group of performers.
It can be assumed that Rihanna will debut some of the new music during her set at the March Madness Music Festival; however, we will have to wait and see before we know for sure. On the bright side, fans will be able to stream the festival live on NCAA’s official website.
Rihanna’s performance announcement will undoubtedly incite claims of new music from the pop star. The “Diamonds” chanteuse has been keeping fans largely in the dark regarding her upcoming releases, preferring to tease samples of her new music instead of giving concrete release information. In the last few weeks, she has teased several tracks, both from her studio album (which is rumored to be titled #R8) and the Home soundtrack (a film in which Rihanna will be making her voice acting debut). Most recently, Ri Ri teased a sample of a single with the working title, “Higher,” on her Instagram account.
