Lorde‘s songwriter-producer, Joel Little, said the pop singer will begin working on her second studio album in a month or so. “That’s the plan, basically. We’re just going to start writing some songs,” Little told NME magazine. He also said that they don’t have an exact plan for the direction of the album, and they’re just going to let the songwriting guide them through the process. At the Golden Globes last month, Lorde revealed that she was not sure when her next project would be released. “For me I have to kind of write a project lyrically before I attack it musically. So I’ve written a lot of amazing stuff and I’m just tentatively starting to make it music,” the pop singer said.
Lorde’s first album Pure Heroine was dropped in 2013, and it produced five singles including “Royals,” “Tennis Court,” “Team,” “No Better,” and “Glory and Gore.” The album reached the Number 3 position on the Billboard 200 chart, and it topped the Top Rock Albums chart, the New Zealand Albums chart, and the albums chart in Australia. In 2014, the project was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards. Pure Heroine‘s lead single, “Royals,” stayed at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks, at it also made it to the top of the singles chart in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Europe, Ireland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland, Venezuela, and the United Kingdom. The song would go on to sell over seven million copies in the US, and it won two Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year.
Lorde does not have any tour dates or music festivals scheduled this year, although there is speculation she may make an appearance at Lollapalooza 2015. Last year, Lorde was forced to cancel her Australian tour dates due to health issues. The singer had been working nonstop, after embarking on her first US tour, which included several stops at the industry’s biggest music festivals. Lorde even took the stage with Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, for which she performed the band’s hit song “All Apologies.”
