Kanye West revealed the title of his highly-anticipated upcoming album. The rapper announced the project will be named So Help Me God,and he also tweeted a photo of the Catholic symbol for the Virgin Mary. West didn’t say if the photo will be the cover art for his new album. The rapper has performed a few songs from So Help Me God, and he revealed his hit single with Rihanna and Paul McCartney, “FourFiveSeconds,” will also be on the project. The song reached the Number 4 position on the Billboard Hot 100, and the three musicians performed the record for the first time at this year’s Grammy awards.
Last month, West performed a medley of “Jesus Walks,” “Only One,” and “Wolves” at Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary celebration. “Wolves” is expected to be featured on the So Help Me God project. He also performed another new record, that is expected to be on the project, at last week’s Brit Awards. The rapper performed “All Day,” along with dozens of people including Vic Mensa, Theophilus London, St. Paul, Allan Kingdom, Novelist, Krept & Konan, Skepta, Stormzy, and more. Aside from the few singles West has performed, there hasn’t been more information regarding what other songs will be featured on So Help Me God.
In February, producer Rick Rubin revealed that West has a lot of left over songs from his Yeezus album. He said that West recorded several versions of one song for Yeezus, and he believes the rapper could drop an alternate album. Rubin also stated that these alternate versions are great songs that are just as good as the ones he featured on the Yeezus project. Rubin explained that “Bound 2” was completely transformed into a totally different record. Once Rubin got involved with working on the song, West decided to remove some singing vocals, and make it into a sample-based record. “Bound 2” was changed into a band version with synthesizers, but the unreleased version has more rhythm and soul elements. West has not commented on Rick Rubin’s interview, but there is still a possibility he will decide to release an alternate version of Yeezus.
