John Legend‘s Get Lift Film Company is producing a musical romantic drama along with IM Global and Furst Films. The film centers around a former one-hit wonder who gets hired to coach an aspiring singer for her audition on a singing competition show. R&B singer Miguel is expected to play the lead role in the upcoming film. “Being able to cast Miguel in the male lead puts us in the position to really build an incredible film with strong musical elements. We look forward to working with this dream team we have assembled to deliver something special,” Legend stated. Production for the film is scheduled to begin in September.

Miguel has released two studio albums including All I Want Is You and Kaleidoscope Dream. His third album, Wild Heart, is expected to drop some time this year. The R&B singer’s All I Want Is You was released five years ago. The project reached Number 9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and it was led by the album’s title-track. “All I Want Is You” featuring J. Cole impacted four Billboard charts including the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (Number 7), Adult R&B Songs (Number 21), US Rhythmic (Number 23), and Hot 100 (Number 58). “Sure Thing,” “Quickie,” and “Girls Like You” were also released as singles. “Sure Thing” was Miguel’s first Number 1 song, by peaking at the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The hit song was also certified platinum, after selling over one million copies worldwide.

Kaleidoscope Dream was dropped in 2012, and it featured production from Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse, and Alicia Keys) and Jerry Wonda (The Fugees, Shakira, and Destiny’s Child). The album entered the Billboard 200 at Number 3, and it sold over 70,000 copies in its first week. Kaleidoscope Dream’s singles included “Adorn,” “Do You…,” and “How Many Drinks” featuring Kendrick Lamar. The platinum-selling “Adorn” peaked at Number 1 on the Adult R&B Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also reached Number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and impacted the charts in the UK, France, Canada, Belgium, and Australia. “Adorn” earned three Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Song of the Year.
