“The real is back.” That’s what J. Cole tweeted along with the announcement of the tour for his most recent album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, which dropped on December 9, 2014. The North Carolina artist dropped an album named after a prior address where Cole honed his craft as a rapper and had many coming of age experiences. J. Cole’s mother was unable to pay the mortgage on the house, and the property was foreclosed during Cole’s freshman year at St. John’s University, where Cole graduated with honors in 2007. He recently purchased the house and plans on making it a place where struggling single moms can live rent free temporarily, while they get back on their feet. With this album, Cole took a humungous risk, dropping the album with little promotion and without putting out any singles. The album sold 340,000 units in its first week, and continues to sell, currently near 800,000 records sold. Cole is no stranger to success both critically and commercially

J. Cole’s been putting out music consistently, beginning with The Come Up mixtape in 2007. In 2009, he signed with Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation, with the help of manager Mark Pitts, who worked for Bad Boy in their hey day, and is currently the director of RCA and manager of R&B star Miguel. Cole followed his first project with strong efforts, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights. In 2011, Cole released his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story and Born Sinner in 2013. Both albums debuted number 1 on Billboard Hot 100 and are certified gold.

Cole plans on going through cities that don’t usually get too many shows first before hitting the major cities of the United States. J. Cole says more information regarding the tour will be available for his fans next week. J. Cole was recently featured on a Jeremih song entitled “Planes” produced by Vinylz. Fans are still waiting for the joint project between Cole and Kendrick Lamar, which is yet to be titled, and they say will be released “out of the sky.” It has also been confirmed that Cole will have production on Wale‘s upcoming album The Album About Nothing with legendary comedian Jerry Seinfield.
