Elle Macpherson: 15 Things You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

Elle Macpherson, nicknamed “The Body” by Time magazine, is Australia’s most notorious and highest paid model ever. Here are 15 little known facts about Fashion icon! Stay tuned for part two, coming soon.

Number Fifteen: Elle Macpherson Is a Polyglot

Macpherson was born in Sydney, Australia, which makes her a native speaker of English. At 19 years old, she married French photographer Gilles Bensimon and moved to France with him. As a result, she’s completely fluent in French. Macpherson can also speak conversational Spanish and Italian.

Number Fourteen: She’s Very Dedicated to Her Work

Macpherson goes through a very strict diet to look perfect in appearances and photoshoots, but she’s not afraid to change her body if the occasion calls for it. In 1994, she starred in the movie Sirens, alongside Hugh Grant. The model actually put on 20 pounds for her role, even though she wasn’t technically required to. She thought a curvier figure would look more realistic in the context of the film.

Number Thirteen: She Has a Crush on Eddie Vedder

Her not-so-secret life-long crush is Pearl Jam’s front-man, Eddie Vedder: “He’s cool and I like what he stands for.” When asked what she finds attractive in a person, she said “intelligence, both mental and emotional.”

Number Twelve: She Surfs

Like the Australian she is, Macpherson can surf pretty well. Whenever she visits her hometown, Oz, she never misses to grab a surf board and catch some waves.

Number Eleven: Her Biggest Regret

Macpherson wishes she knew how to play an instrument. “At the moment my limit is playing ‘Yankee Doodle’ on the guitar.” She also regrets not having taken good care of her skin when she was younger.

Number Ten: A Couple of Books that Changed Her

Elle enjoys reading when she’s not too busy with work (which is not often, we guess.) Paul D Walsh-Roberts’ From Atoms to Angels and Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent were the books that most impacted her and changed her.

Number Nine: Her House Was Robbed

Macpherson’s Notting Hill house was robbed in 2002. The burglars smashed the front door’s locks and evaded every security system installed in the house, taking money and photographs.

Number Eight: She Doesn’t Like Looking at Herself in the Mirror

Elle Macpherson says it only takes her 10 minutes to get ready in the morning, and she barely looks at herself in the mirror, as focusing on her appearance makes her uncomfortable. She relies on sunglasses most of the time to go out so that she doesn’t need to spend a lot of time doing her make-up. “I don’t do my hair and I only wear a tiny bit of blusher and lip gloss. I get my hair blow-dried a couple of times a week, but apart from that I just put it up in a ponytail.” Stay tuned for part two, coming soon!
