The Dalai Lama has graced the world with his presence, often imparting great wisdom with whom he meets. Even still, there are some things about his leader that not many people know. Here are more facts about the man.

Number Eight: He’s Not Picky About Airplanes

The Dalai Lama is an individual who travels a lot, but he’s not picky about how he does it. Although he usually flies on chartered flights, he will fly coach on occasion if necessary, which is super cool.

Number Seven: The Dalai Lama Is Hilarious

Many people may not think of a religious leader as someone who is known to be funny, per say. The Dalai Lama, however, is different yet again. Once, during a program, the man put a wet cloth on his head (it was extremely hot) and he told those around him, “Special hat”.

Number Six: He’s Extremely Giving

While this may be something someone would expect, it is still nice to see. In 2009, The Dalai Lama Trust was formed in order to support the lives of the Tibetans. To find out more about his, you can go here.

Number Five: He Dances

The Dalai Lama has been seen dancing on certain occasions. Well, as much as he would dance, anyway. When his holiness was at the Tulane University graduation in 2013, he got into the music and began to dance with a parasol.

Number Four: He Just Got Prostate Surgery

Last month (January 2016), it was reported that the leader would need to go prostate surgery. More specifications about the exact ailment have not been released, but he certainly has just gone through the procedure. It has been announced, however, that March will be the month that he resumes his engagement schedule.

Number Three: He Admits to Being Tempted

In an interview, the Dalai Lama spoke a little bit about his celibate life. He was asked if he was ever tempted in the past, and he said, “Oh, yes, this is very nice. But then thinking—thinking it’s a real job, then feel, too much problem…” Something about this is quite amusing and true.

Number Two: He’s Scared of Sharks

The Dalai Lama has revealed that he has a huge fear of sharks. In fact, being eaten by one is his greatest fear.

Number One: He’s The First To Admit He Gets Angry

Just because the man is a religious figure doesn’t mean he’s purpose, which is something he admits: “You never stop getting angry about small things. In my case, it’s when my staff do something carelessly, then my voice goes high. But after a few minutes, it passes.” Knowing is certainly half the battle. The Dalai Lama is certainly an interesting individual. It’s good to know more about the person who inspires so many. Thanks for reading!
