Indie Rock band The Courteeners sold out 20,000 ticket venue Heaton Park in less than an hour. Tickets went on sale for the bands ‘hometown’ gig this morning at 9am GMT and fans were extraordinarily fast to ensure their place at the event.

The gig is set to take place on the 5th June 2015. Upon finding out how fast the tickets sold, frontman Liam Fray tweeted, “F**K ME. INSANE.” Fray often uses twitter to communicate with fans and release information about upcoming events and news that involve the band. The event will be the band’s first return to Manchester since they played Castlefield Bowl in 2013, which also sold out on both nights the band performed.

The band have recently finished their 2014 UK tour named after latest album, Concrete Love. The tour began on October 27th at Sheffield’s O2 Academy and ended in Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 21st November.

Courteeners had a few problems during the tour which led to the London date at Brixton Academy having to be stopped due to members of the crowd lighting flares. This happened at many dates, despite the band warning fans via social network sites, “We’ve been advised by authorities & venues that if any smoke bombs or flares go off at any shows on the tour then we must stop the shows.”

They played at Reading & Leeds festival in August when they headlined the NME/BBC1 stage. They also played at other UK festivals such as V Festival, T In The Park, and Glastonbury.

The Courteeners currently have 4 studio albums, including St. Jude, Falcon, Anna, and Concrete Love. Concrete Love was the band’s most successful album on the UK charts, reaching number three.

Many big name musicians have proclaimed their love for the Manchester band, including Morrissey, previous frontman of The Smiths. The Courteeners have also supported Morrissey on his American tour in 2009. Bono from U2 made the bold statement, describing The Courteeners as “the best band of the past ten years.” They were also invited to perform with Noel Gallagher at a charity event at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010.
