Autism: 6 Signs Your Child Might Have This Disorder

Autism: 15 Things You Didn't Know (Part 1)
samantha.webeden.co.uk

As a parent, the last thing you want to think about is the fact that your baby might have a problem. When it comes to autism, however, it’s important to notice it as early as possible. This can make a large difference in the effectiveness of treatment methods and, as a consequence, the life of your child. Treatment can dramatically improve the effects of the disorder, so don’t lose hope! Here are some early signs that your child may be autistic.

Number Six: He or She Does Not Make Eye Contact

Most babies will look directly at you when they are being fed, or otherwise make eye contact in various situations. If you find that your little one doesn’t do this, it could signal an issue.

Number Five: They Do Not Smile When You Smile at Them

Almost all babies return a smile when you give them one. If you find that yours doesn’t, this could be a sign that they are autistic, especially when that sign is combined with other signs on this list.

Number Four: Your Child Doesn’t Respond to Their Own Name

If your baby or small child does not respond to their own name, it could mean autism. Another signal is if they don’t show any recognition when in the presence of a familiar voice, whether it be yours or another family member’s.

Number Three: Doesn’t Use Communicative Gestures

Most babies and kids start pointing their fingers or waving hello quite early on. If your child isn’t using gestures for communication purposes by a certain age, it might signal that they have this disorder.

Number Two: Lack of Playing or Interest Could Mean Autism

Most kids begin playing before they can even walk, either by themselves, with others, or both. If yours does not participate in play with other people, and doesn’t seem to show any interest in activities or enjoyment, it could signal autism.

Number One: No Requests for Help

Children often ask their parents to help them with certain things, or to pick them up. If your kid doesn’t do this, they could have autism. Thanks for reading our list.
